
Joe believes in the power of technology to remove barriers to learning. As the Associate Director of Operations, Joe is responsible for maintaining and supporting the use of digital technologies in online courses by supervising a team of technical support specialists. Additionally, Joe tests, evaluates, and implements new tools for online learning; manages technology knowledge bases for faculty and students; collaborates with instructional designers and media specialists on online course development and deployment; and works directly with faculty to help them leverage digital technologies to enhance teaching and learning opportunities in online spaces.
Joe has a BA and an MA in English Literature from Rutgers University and a Master’s in Library & Information Science from Drexel University. Before coming to Penn Arts and Sciences Online Learning, he was the Courseware Support Librarian at the Penn Libraries, where he played a crucial role in Penn’s transition from Blackboard to Canvas. He also founded the Accessibility and Learning Technologies group, a collaboration among faculty, students, technologists, and disability specialists devoted to creating and supporting accessible course content at the University of Pennsylvania.
